NEIL KINGHAM
Tabletop Game
Editing and Proofreading
Hi, I’m Neil
I edit and proofread tabletop games for publishers, independent authors and designers. I’ve been playing and running tabletop games for the last 35 years, and I’ve been involved in the industry since I founded Paladin Roleplaying in 2017.
I’ve always been of a bit of a word-nerd: it bugs me when I see out of place apostrophes, typos and bad layout in games, and I want to help you make sure your game looks professional and doesn’t contain unnecessary mistakes that could have been prevented.
Editorial Services Offered
I can help you in different ways, depending on what point you’re at in the development of your game.
If you’re still in the design phase, and need some help with the basics, then you might want to consider a developmental edit and/or consultancy. If you have your game pretty much written, but need help with the flow, pace, clarity and wording, then you’re probably after line or copy editing. And if your game is finished and laid-out, but you need someone to cast an eye over it to pick up on any mistakes, typos, misspellings and bad punctuation, then you’ll want to think about proofreading.
For help as you develop your game: Developmental editing provides hands-on, page-by-page guidance and advice on mechanics, setting and scenarios. Find out more
A careful review of your finished game, before you go to layout, addressing grammar, spelling and punctuation errors and improving clarity, consistency and flow. I’ll also check the technical aspects of your game. Find out more
A final quality-control check to polish your words once your manuscript has been laid-out. Proofreads pick up any problems with grammar, spelling, punctuation, word use, layout and formatting. Find out more
TTRPG Editing and Proofreading
Tabletop roleplaying games take specialist skills to edit or proofread effectively. I’ve been playing them for 35 years, and working in the industry for 7 years. Find out more.
Board Game Editing and Proofreading
There are unique challenges when it comes to editing and proofreading board games (and other tabletop games) which will benefit from a specialist pair of eyes. Find out more.
Why Choose Me?
I have high quality formal training by the Chartered Institute Of Editors And Proofreaders (the UK’s leading institution), and lots of experience and knowledge in the TTRPG and wider tabletop gaming field.
“At the end of a protracted writing and design process, you’re understandably pretty excited to release your book into the world. It’s finally time to collect on all the the adoring praise and international success that you deserve! However, experience has taught me that if you’re too hasty, you’ll instead be met by a helpful (but less exciting) buzz of corrections and confusion as your readers pick apart every spelling error, grammar blunder or unexplained term in your work.
My advice to you is simple: get Neil to find these embarrassing mistakes for you! He is rigorous, considered and gentle, and he’ll make you look like the flawless genius you always knew you were.”
